Alot would depend on how long ago he obtained the student loan and how long he’s going to be incarcerated. I’m a paralegal for an attorney and we got a letter from a lifer in fed prison who was worried about his student loans. Don’t ask my why someone doing life was worried about his credit rating, but anyway, after getting online and doing somme checking, we discovered that the loans were so old they had actually written them off long ago. You can get online (just search under Student Loans) and see how much is owed if you have your friends personal info. He might be able to contact the loan company and explain his situation to them and see if they would be willing to suspend payments owed until he’s released. Good luck!
